Project Details


Our aim is to unravel the mathematical conceptions with are implicit in some of the most important ontological theories, focusing mainly on several of the most basic texts in the history of ontological thought (Aristotle, Thomas Aquinas, Descartes, Leibniz, Hegel,...) in order to study problems such as Aristotle's link between quantity and contrariety, categorical cartesian order, or Hegel's conception of measure. Besides the classical problem posed by the ontological status of mathematical entities, we intend to face the symmetrical question: to what extent mathematical ideas are already determining the very formulation of some onotological problems? Our research would matrerialize in a textbook devoted to the analysis of such a relationship between mathematics and ontology, providing all the pedagogical materials required for its understanding.
