Els Complements Circumstancials i la Composicionalitat de la Preposició en Espanyol i en Català

Project Details

The main goal of this project is to achieve a syntatctica and semantic characterization of the argument complements as well as the circunstancial complements or adjuncts. Particulary, we distinguish three types of complements: (a) those wich, like subjects, are obligatorily selected by the predicate; (b) those which are optionally selected by the predicate or the arguments loosely related to the verb. Among those, agentive complements, benefactives, instrumental comitatives, quantity, manner and place complements; (c) the adjuncts or complements whose licensing do not depend exclusively on the properties of the sentencial predicate. Our central interest is to study the conditions under which the "circumstancial" complements with a modifier function are licensed, distinguishing the from those which behave as non obligatory arguments of the predicate. The working plan includes the following study matters: I. \i The behavior of functional modifiers and their delimitation with optatively selected arguments.\i0 II\i Optatively selected arguments\i and adjuncts proper.\i0 III. \i Central aspects about adverbial subordination\i0
