The main goal of this project is to complet the DAC ("degree of articulatory constraint") coarticulation model for VCV sequences (which has been formulated with linguopalatal contact and acoustic data in Recasens et al., \ul Journal of the Acoustical Society of America\ul0 , in press) with data on lingual, labial and jaw movement. The DAC model relates and integrates the consonantal effects with the vocalic effects and, especially, the anticipatory and carryover direcction of those effects; the model predicts that the coarticulatory effects and their direction in VCV sequences should be conditioned by the production requirements of the intervocalic consonant. In order to achieve this goal, data on Catalan and Spanish VCV sequences will be collected with the manetometer (EMA) at the Institut d'Estudis Catalans. At a later stage, place, manner and voicing coarticulation in consonantal dlusters will be analyzed by means of electropalatography (EPG), electroglotography (EGG) and the Rothenberg mask. The project qill be completed with the statistical modeling of the coarticulation data and with methodological studies on the operation of the EMA system with other techniques for recording articulatory data.
