The project we present starts from the results obtained in a preceding project (DGICYT: PB90-0704). Our aim was the characterization of several speaking styles in spanish and the elaboration and application of the rules which explain phonetic variation depending on the speaking style to text-to-speech systems. The results obtained point at the need to expand and investigate further in the development of the rule system, as well as the acoustic characterization of phonetic variation. It seems a fundamental need the elaboration of a speech data base of speaking styles of peninsular spanish. The constitution of this corpus and its application to a text-to-speech system is the main objective of this coordinate project.
