The main objective of the research is to know the organizational culture of five Catalan universities. Adopting the comcept "organizational culture" in the sense of Haandy (1984) when he defines it as the set of values and meaning shared by the members, manifested in a tangible and intangible way, which determine and explain their individual behaviors, we approach the research from the institutional improvement perspective. We intend to offer to the University as structure, a desing of strategies that would allow the University change to more adaptative culture. In parallel, a personal and professional development of the participants, as well as a greater compromise with the institution, are being favored through the research model of action-research. Definitively, it entails a contribution to the society and to higher education because it makes evident the situation of each institution and forces it to become aware of the characteristics of the predominant culture.
