Edición y estudio de treinta y seis comedias de Lope de Vega

Project Details

Description

The current project is, to a large extent, the continuation of eight previous projects (PB 89-0320, PB 93-0891, PB 96-1195, BFF 2000-
0083, BFF2003-02480, HUM2006-09046, HUM2009-13563 and FFI2012-35950), managed by Alberto Blecua, and is part of a single and
great research project with an ambitious goal that is being gradually accomplished: publishing for the first time ever the critical edition of
the whole dramatic production by Lope de Vega. The group, known as PROLOPE in the field of national and international research,
intends to go on with this task and prepare, throughout the new triennial period, the critical edition, with study and annotation, of the thirty
six comedies comprised in Parts XVI, XVII and XVIII.
Together with this fundamental aim, and as a result of the experience gathered since 1989, which is quite significant already (around one
hundred and fifty comedies critically edited), two other important lines are sketched: the progressive systematization and appreciation of
the already published corpus by means of all-embracing interpretative studies, which, especially in this triennium, tend to place Lopes
dramatic production within the context of the European theatre of his time. On the other hand, the group PROLOPE aims to undertake
another goal during this years and in the future, and it is one of capital importance for the greater and better spreading and preservation of
the results of its research: the digital edition, along with everything it can entail, from the design of the new models of critical digital edition
to the elaboration or adaptation of specific computer tools and the development of pilot critical editions to be published online.
As shown by the curricula of the researchers constituting the group, the study and edition of Golden Age theatre, and Lope de Vegas in
particular, is an essential research line in all of them, whether in its textual aspect or in its historical-critical or interpretative side. Taking
into account the new lines we attempt to undertake, we should emphasize the integration in the project of recognized and experienced
digital humanities experts. The very sensitive presence of researchers from foreign universities confers upon the project the international
dimension and the comparatist turn to which it also aspires. The two main researchers can prove a long career path in the edition of Lope
de Vegas theatre, the textual critic and the analysis of the texts; moreover, each of them has oriented part of his most recent research
towards one of the two new lines mentioned above.
