Project Details
Description
The present research project tries to fill the gaps in our knowledge of the evolution of land rights, forms of ownership and especially to analyse the development of different methods of labour, as much agricultural as craft., manufacturing, industrial or mercantile, and integrate these into one interpretative analysis. The project joins historians from divers fields of chronological study-medievalists, modernists and contemporaneous- in the attempt to submit the sources, from the 12th c to the 20th c. to a unique methodology and to the same questions.
Along these lines, phenomena like differentiation in rural society and the role of non-agricultural forms of labour can be more intelligible if we analyse them in the long term. A perspective which, on the other hand, is only possible in regions like Girona, where the archives are particularly rich from the 13th c. and maintain considerable continuity. The project will also influence the establishment of comparisons within the same region and with other external areas, between populations with differing economical and social characteristics
