Project Details


This proposal applies for three years funding in order to study the interaction of neutrons with matter with the aim of defining the adequate instrumentation and procedure to perform real-time personal neutron dosimetry. With this purpose, we propose studying by Monte-Carlo simulation the response of a set of test configuration using several types of semiconductor detectors and different materials acting as converters. These converters are used to originate charged particles, detectable by teh semiconductor devices, from the neutron fields under study. Once this study is finished, the configurations giving most adequate results will be selected and will be assembled and experimentally characterised. This characterisation will include their calibration and validation in reference laboratories of neutron metrology. At the same time, and with the purpose of avoiding the necessity of an international journey of group members each time that a new configuration is to be tested, an irradiator adequate to make use of our laboratory's Am-Be source will be built. The neutron fiels obtained from this irradiator will be characterised with our neutron spectrometry reference system.
