The generalization of divorce brings about the break-up of conventional families with two resident parents. results from our investigation pinpoint that the child protection problem is the focus point in crisis situations. First of all, these situations lead to an increase in the number of one-parent families, in which chid poverty is especially evident. On the other hand, the formation of stepfamilies through the remarriage of divorced parents brings about complex legal problems concerning the rights and duties of non-resident parents and other people involved. This scenario should be studied from a social and legal approach to decide which policies have to be enforced to solve situations without a clear solution yet.
