Description

The aims of the present project are: a) to optimize the thioacetamide method for growing anoxygenic bacteria in anaerobic jars; b) to study the role of virus and predatory bacteria controlling phototrophic bacterial populations in natural habitats, and finally, c) to establish markers with which we will analyze samples in the environment. We are using the anaerobic jars for the isolation of phototrophic bacteria, for the antibiotic test and to quantify virus. On the other hand we are testing the pulsed field gel electrophoresis that can be used for kariotyping and construction of physical maps of the microorganisms as well as letting us detect the presence of extracromosomal material (upwards SoKb). The result obtained by using both techniques will allow us to better understand the physiology and genetics of phototrophic bacteria. These experiments will increase in the future our knowled
