Diferenciació microglial en cultius organotípics

    Project Details

In the last years, current research has originated an increased interest by the microglial cells of the central nervous system. These studies indicate that microglial cells are actively involved in the defense and repair reactions in the central nervous system acting as antigen presenting cells in certain neuroimmunological processes. In order to understand the role that microglial cells play in the nervous tissue, it is essential to establish the nature of these cells as well as to find out the factors regulating their proliferation and differentiation. With the present research project we want to resolve these questions by means of: 1) in vitro studies employing the organotypic slice culture technique, which allows to maintain the tissue structural organization and to manipulate the medium; and 2) histochemical and immunocytochemical techniques allowing specific visualization of glial cells
