Project Details


Following the research developed by our group on the study of several genotoxicity assays and on their ability to detect different kinds of genetic damage, the present project plans: a) to evaluate, at the molecular level, whether the revertants induced by several genotoxic agents on mutants of the white locus of "Drosophila melanogaster" carrying transposable elements are due to recombination between LTRs, total or partial deletions of the insertion sequence, or to other causes; b) to evaluate the aneugenic activity of several genotoxic agents, in human lymphocytes, using the micronucleus assay plus "in situ" hybridization techniques using specific DNA probes of both the centromeric and telomeric regions; c) to evaluate the ability of several genotoxic agents to induce excision-repairable genetic lesions in human lymphocytes, using the micronucleus assay and citosine-arabinoside (ara-C)
