Detecció, incidència i origen d'anomalies cromosòmiques en la espermatogènesi humana

Project Details

Description

The project intends to evaluate different mechanisms and cell processes involved in the production and the incidence of chromosomal abnormalities in spermatozoa. Testicular material and semen samples from healthy donors, infertile men and carriers of chromosomal abnormalities will be analyzed. The project will attempt through the combined use of classical cytogenetic studies, fluorecescent in situ hybridization analysis (FISH) and molecular detection methods of apoptosis, to establish the relationship between the observed apoptotic processes and meiotic disturbances related to male infertility. Furthermore, an evaluation of the final impact in the chromosomal content of the produced spermatozoa will be also ascertained, thus the final aim of the project being to gain more insight and to improve reproductive counselling for infertile patients.
