Description
One of the problems of our society is the high amount of environmental pollutation resulting from human activity. To determine the genotoxicity of these compounds, short-term tests has been very useful; ans among these, the sex-linked recessive lethal (SLRL) test with Drosophila has proved to be very appropriate. Nevertheless, recently its has been developed in Drosophila new assays detecting mutation and recombination induction in somatic cells (SMART assays) that show many advantatges respect to the classical SLRL test. For this reasons these assays has been proposed to be integrated in the standard short-term test batteries recommended by international organizations as the OECD and CEE. The aim of the present project is to investigate the advantages of a new genetic system based in the quadruplicating of the white-ivory allele as SMART assay; to determinate the optimal procedure to develop this assay and to compare the obtained results with those observed in the mwh/flr test that, until the moment, is the best validated Smart assay
