    Description

The present proposal is focused on the development of recombinant vaccines for the prevention of two poultry diseases of viral origin with great relevance: the Infectious Bursal Disease (IBD) and the Turkey Rhino Tracheitis (TRT), involved in the Swollen Head Syndrome. The system for the vaccines production is based on the culture of insect cells and their infection by the recombinant viruses, expressing empty capsids or other proteins with immunogenetic activity in the host animals. The development of a process with such characteristics implies different steps, covered by each one of the groups participating in the proposal: steps of molecular biology to achieve the expression of the various target proteins in the baculovirus system, steps of bioprocess engineering in order to optimize the insect cells culture and the infection process with baculoviruses up to pilot scale, and finally steps of analysis of the protective activity of the different products obtained when applied to host animals.
