The aim of the project is to develop fibre chemical sensors based on the immobilisation of reactive phases in the terminal area of the fibre. The reactive phases may not be selective, that is, the optical response, in principle absortion, refectance and fluorescence, may be a complex signal. The sensors will be applied to the simultaneous analysis of the components of a complex mixture, both discontinuous and in flow systems. It is for this reason that multi-component analysis methods and, where necessary, procedures of multi-varied calibration will be employed.
