The present proposal is part of a joint project previously evaluated (MAT88-744 and MAT88-752). The project was financed for a year period in order to provide a coordination improvement between the participing groups. Also, an additional support has been given (MAT89-915-E and MAT89-912-E) to keep the research activity of both groups until the present term. Indications received in this evaluation as well as the contribution from each group since the project aproval are gathered. In this part, we propose the study and development of liquid membranes and functionalized polymers as new materials in separation techniques. The design and optimization of liquid membranes processes as well as the synthesis and characterization of functionalized polymers will be carried out. Special attention will be paid to the application of these results to the technological development of new separation methods for high value-added or strategically important metals (precious metals and rare earth).
