Project Details


The goal of this project is the development of soft magnetic materials, obtained from Fe-rich powders compacted, and consolidated in the temperature interval between glass transition and crystallization onset of two kinds: - Bulk metallic glasses, BMG - Nanostructured materials, NSM To get powdered amorphous or nanostructured alloys, two processing routes will be used - Rapid solidification + mechanical grinding - Mechanical alloying The products obtained in each intermediate processing step, leading to the consolidated materials will be subjected to: structural characterization, measurement of magnetic properties, calorimetric study of relaxation/ nucleation + crystal growth kinetics. Special care will be devoted to the kinetic analysis of the thermally activated transformation, since the knowledge of the kinetic mechanisms that govern these transformations is considered determinant for the election of the most convenient processing route to obtain an innovative material with competitive production cost. The interest manifested by the P/M industries through the support given too the project by leading P/M industry, is accompanied by the willing to establish collaborative agreement for the transfer and exploit of results derived from the proposed study.
