Project Details


This project aims to developing the recording of metabolite patterns from human brain tumors by localized proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1 H MRS) into an automated routine clinical tool for the diagnosis, prognosis and patient follow-up. To achieve our objective, we will work both, "in vivo" with humans and animal models and ex vivo with biopsies, cells and their extracts. Also, we will be developing and standardizing protocols for the study of human muscle bioenergetics by 31P MRS at rest, during exercice of vaying intensity and during recovery from such exercise. This will allow us to investigate in an individualized basis the effect of changing the energy body stores on muscle performance. Our preliminary work with volontary subjects willl lay the ground for further studies of patients, contributing both, to the proper diagnosis of the afflicting pathology and to the non-invasive evaluation of their response to therapy.
