Description
Migration movements from worlwide communities to Spain is a recent phenomenon which has a great impact on our society. Our schools have experienced a change in the sociocultural background of their pupils since they first started to host non-native children and adolescents under school-leaving age. Schooling would be a success if, after a relatively short period of time, those students could follow the school curriculum of the local students becaudçse that would mean that they had been integrated harmoniously in the host society. The mastery of the languages of the local communitity is one of the key factors which enhances the process of integration. The present project aims at exploring qualitatively the world of immigration in Catalan schools. One doing so, we will analyse the linguistic use of both the local languages (Spanish and Catalan) and the foreign ones in an attempt to obtain information which may be useful in order to plan the syllabi of the courses designed to welcome immigrant pupils and to help them integrate in our educational system
