Upper Cretaceous sequences in North Spain, from Burgos to Lérida Provinces, are well represented, both expanded sections and rich and diverse fossil records. A good documented literature by german, french and spaniard authors, is currently available. Our researchs have allowed us to recognize a general biostratigraphy in several Upper Cretaceous Stages, according to the Subcommission on Cretaceous Stratigraphy (SCS) recommendations, and priorities of several International Geological Correlation Programe (IGCP) projects. Since the first symposium on Cretaceous Stages boundaries, held al Copenhagen in 1983, and recently the second one at Brussels, North Spain has been pointed out as an interesting area to define several boundary stratotypes (e.g., the Coniacian.Santonian and the Lower Maastrichtian-Upper Maastrichtian boundaries). Our proposed research will be based on well known biozonation defined during earlier works and following SCS's recommendations. We will study several section looking at the year 2000th, as a horizont to propose formar boundary stratotypes cited above, and chech other possibilitires which seem interesting.
