Project Details
Description
The project aims to analyze current trends in party systems. As party systems can be defined in terms of competition and cooperation, we seek to examine the logic of party competition (supply strategies, within a given cleavage structure and under given institucional rules) and the mechanics and implications of the processes of political coalitions formation and operation (be it parliamentary or cabinet coalitions). The analysis will be comparative (payiong attention to various national political systems in Southerm Europe and Latin America, as to various regiional and local institutional arenas in Spain) and theoretical, especially in the most formalized field thus fdar, the analysis of political coalitions. Because of its substantive relevance anda signification from the point of view of its competitive dynamics, a more detailed attention will be devoted to the Basque Country case.
