Protein kinase CK2 is a highly conserved and ubiquitous enzyme that seems to play a crucial role in the control of the mechanisms that govern cell proliferation. CD2 can associate with other proteins and with nucleic acids, what could modulate its activity. The goal of the present project is the characterization of the complexes between CK2 and pp49 "in vitro" and its influence on the interaction of the enzymes with order macromolecules. The work will be complemented with the characterization of the catalytic subunits present in HL-60 and HepG2 cells and their relation with canonical subunits alfa and alfa'. These studies will help the characterization of the complexes that CK2 form in the cytoplasm and nucleus of these cells, the presence of p53 and hsp90 inthem, and their possible role in the control of CK2 activity in the early phases of the cell cycle.
