    Description

We are going to catalogue and study for the first time the illuminated manuscripts in the National Library of Madrid, which have been only object of partial inventories and studies. This is a project planned the first time in Spain, similar to others started in great European and American libraries during the lst years, such as Wien (1983), Paris (1980), Baltimore (1989). Other less ambitious projects have been also initiated in Oxford (1966), and also have been made projects such as the Catalogue of Hebrew manuscripts from the Iberian Paeninsule in the British Library (1982).All of them are still under way, and ours should join in this scientific trend dhared by the great libraries, within which the Biblioteca Nacional must be included. For that purpose, joint work between art Historians, cidicologist and paleographers is required. There is already a previous agreement between the aplicant research group and specialized staff in the Biblioteca Nacional itself, in accordance with its director and particularly with Mercedes Dexeus (director of the Bibliographic Heritage Department). Thus, we hope to achive optimal results. At the end of this work, we pretend to publish a catalogue, for which the Biblioteca Nacional will also obtain resources.
