    Project Details

The \i Drosophila melanogaster\i0 alcohol dehydrogenase gene (Adh) is located within the 35B2-3 region of the salivary gland polytene chromosomes, where the presence of a puff has been reported. In order to understand whether Adh really contributes to the activity of the 35B puff, we plan to study the fine structure of this puff as well as the presence and distribution of it transcription product using a preferential ribonuleoprotein (RNP) staining. To find out whether some of this RNO material corresponds to the transcription product of Adh, electron microscopy "in situ" hybridisation experiment to determine the precise location of this gene and so its involvement in the activity of the 35B puff will be carried out
