This project is aimed at reconstructing the climate in the Mediterranean Spain since the last glacial maximum as well as its interpretetion in terms of human and natural influences. A major goal is to evaluate the biotic response to climatic changes for the last 18000 years by joining proxy pollen data with other sources of evidence such as palaeobotany, anthracology, palaeontology and dendrochronology. It will be provided a geomorphological study in order to accurately select the sampling sites. Sampling will be made in lakes, lagoons and peaty sites within the Spanish regions with Mediterranean climate. Emphasis will put forward on the semi-arid southeastern Spain since its features of bioclimatically boundary region. Results will be correlated with present-day analogues in order to quantify the palaeoclimatological variables and their evolution.
