Project Details
Description
The proposal submitted for evaluation is centered around two main areas: linguistics and speech technology. From a linguistic point of view this project aims at characterizing the differences between speaking styles in Spanish; this will lead to the definition of a set of descriptive and explanatory rules to account for phonetic variation in different speaking styles. On the technological side, the implementation of these rules will lead to substantial improvements on the performance of the existing synthesis and recognition systems. In particular, it is hoped that both intelligibility and naturalness of existing text-to-speech systems will be increased.
