Description
Researchin the Romancity of \i Iesso\i0 (modern Guissona, LLeida)has both an historical and archaeological interest, which is clearly supported by the advantageous results obtained in the excavations of the last years. These archaeological works are providing a model of cultural management for ancients cities in the framework of the rising cultural industry. They also imply an important advance in the knowledge of Roman urban agglomerations. The whole area of the Archaeological Park on study offers great possibilities of excavation in large.
The main objective of this project is the characterization of the Roman city, its urban development and dynamics in Antiquity, as well as its relation with the evolution documented in other Roman cities of the \i Hispania Tarraconense.\i0 Specifically, it is intended to continue excavations in two areas where work has been going on for the last three years: the fortification and the North gate, and the \i domus\i0 or aristocratic house. In addition, it is also intended to start the study of the public baths and its surroundings, and to advance in the knowledge of Late Antiquity, a period which has provided very interesting data so far
