Description
This project deal with the establishment of a methodology for the treatment of toxic effluents, based in the use of a non conventional fungi for these purposes, \i Rhizoctonia solani\i0 . This fungus is well known by one of the groups participating in this project, at the level of genetics and molecular biology. The lignolitic enzymes produced by certain type of fungi can degrade toxic and xenobiotic compounds. As a consequence the use of the fungus \i R. solani\i0 strains (wild and genetically modified) containing the genes that codify one or more lignolitic enzymes according to the convenience of the textile waste water biotreatment process, is planed. Methods, tools and knowledge about \i R. solani\i0 and lignolitic enzymes will be developed. Consqequently, in the future they will be able to be used not only in environmental biotechnology and as enzymatic factory as well. Moreover \i R. solani\i0 , is considered today as a species complex, having quite different properties between strains. For this reason and because most of the strains of the collection have been isolated by ourselves, we have great possibilities of finding some interesting strain, susceptible to be patented together with the engineering process to be developed in this project.
