Description

Study objective: to characterize a) the genetic alterations in human pancreatic tumorigenesis; b) structural alterations of the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR); c) the pancreatic feto-acinar (FAP) protein. Design: open, three years. Setting: Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau, and other hospitals. Patients: patients consecutively operated on for histologicaly proven pancreatic cancer. Over the study period, some fourty patients will fulfill the inclusion criteria. Interventions: fragments of fresh tumor tissue (primary, lymph nodes, and metastasis) will be obtained from surgery, and primary cultures will be established for the analysis of chromosomal rearrangements; tissue will also be implanted orthotopicaly in athymic nude mice.
