The main aim of this project (...) is the comprehension, control and harnessing of chemical reactions in which there is the intervention of electron transfer steps (in many cases, as the initial step), principally in aromatic compounds. Most particularly, we will continue with the study of radical-ion chemistry, the design and use of nano-reactors and the study and design of new photonic materials characterised y the property of second-harmonic generation (non-linear optics). Additionally we will initiate the study of new molecular devices that might be characterised by individual molecule spectroscopy. Radical-ion chemistry. Electro-chemically generated radical ions ought to faciliate the more fundamental objectives such as the systematisation of nitro-aromatic radical anion behaviour, determining the experimental conditions in which the speed-deciding phase is a dimerisation or fragmentation, as well as those objectives of a more applied character: new synthetic methods of fluoride compounds and ionic liquid compounds, among others. Nano-reactors. Generalise the possibilities of cyclodextrines, zeolytes and meso-porous solids such as photochemical nano-reactors in the processes of photo-induced electronic transference and other processes of interest. New photonic materials. Explores the obtaining of materials having second-harmonic generation activity (non-linear optics), through the inclusion of chromophores in ordered solid matrices of the cyclodextrine, zeolyte and meso-porous solid type. New molecular devices. Prepare molecules capable of showing electro- and photo-chromism and of acting as molecular devices.
