Personal profile

Research interests

I initiate my research career in 2000 starting my Doctoral Thesis in the Cell Biology Unit (Autonomous University of Barcelona, UAB). My doctoral research project focused on the characterization of chromosomal abnormalities in the spermatogenic process of infertile patient and in the analysis of the use of these studies in couples' reproductive advice who consult for fertility problems. In June 2010 I obtained the PhD grade in Cell Biology with the qualification of Excellent Cum Laude and the Extraordinary Doctorate Award of the 2009-10 academic year. During this period, I conducted a research stay in the group of Dr Dym (Georgetown University Medical Center, Washington DC), which completed my predoctoral scientific training and established new bases for my postdoctoral career.

My research has been linked, since its inception, to the Genetics of Male Fertility Group (http://gmfgroup.wixsite.com/gmfgroup) of the Autonomous University of Barcelona, and I am also a member of a Consolidated Research Group (SGR) recognized by the Generalitat de Catalunya since 2001. The Genetics of Male Fertility Group addresses the study of male infertility from different prisms: gamete and germ cell genetics, chromosomal reorganizations, meiotic segregation, spermatic transcriptome, spermatic methyloma, chromosomal territoriality and genetic counseling. During the postdoctoral periode, in addition to actively contributing to the evolution and consolidation of different research lines of the group, I has initiate and leads a new line of research that studies the "Relationship between chromosome positioning and functionality in the spermatogenic cells and spermatozoa".

Along my research career, I have participated uninterruptedly in 10 research competitive projects and 3 research and technology transfer contracts. I have authored 30 publications (20 articles indexed in the Journal Citation Reports, 12 of them in Q1 and 9 of them in the 1rst decile; and I was the first author or the corresponding author in 13/20 articles). The articles have 394 citations. My h-index is 10. Moreover, the results of my research were also presented in 45 contributions to congresses (8 as invited speaker and 21 oral communications).

In addition, I have also trained new researchers, supervising 7 master and one PhD student (graduate with Cum Laude). Moreover, I have supervised other 10 research activities of undergraduate students. Also, I am a reviewer of scientific articles in indexed journals, and a member of the examining board of Master and Thesis projects.

Regarding my academic activity, my teaching work have been continuous since 2000, teaching theoretical and practical classes in several subjects of 1st, 2nd and 3rd cycle, coordinating several undergraduate programs and participating in educational innovation activities. In addition, I have the accreditations of Collaborating Professor, “Lector” Professor and Aggregate Professor (by the Agency for the quality of the Catalan university system, AQU); and the accreditations of Contracted Professor Doctor, Assistant Professor Doctor, Professor of Private University and University Lecturer (National Agency for the Evaluation of Quality and Accreditation, ANECA, Spain). I am currently holding a position as an Associate Professor (Aggregate Professor) in the Cell Biology Unit (Autonomous University of Barcelona, UAB).
