Research interests

Full Professor in the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). An anthropologist specializing in fieldwork, ethnographic techniques, and the study of ritual and symbolism. In 1993, she began ethnographic fieldwork (with a predoctoral research grant) among the Ndowe people of Equatorial Guinea in Central Africa, focusing on women's reproductive health with a particular emphasis on symbolic representations and ritual practices. Within the Research Group in Fundamental and Applied Anthropology (GRAFO), she has also investigated social exclusion and marginalization in research projects with Professor Teresa San Román, and the transcultural study of procreation with Professor Aurora González. She is currently a member of the AHCISP research group (Anthropology and History of the Construction of Social and Political Identities), a recognized SGR funded by AGAUR (2021SGR00193). Her current research focuses on symbolism and ritual, employing an ethnographic methodology to study contemporary ritual practices, as published on the website 'Inventario de Rituales' (https://webs.uab.cat/rituals/presentacio/).

Her research career is transferred to the field of teaching, in the following subjects of the Degree in Social and Cultural Anthropology: 1) Anthropology of Religion, Ritual and Symbolism. 2) Ethnographic Fieldwork I. In the Master in Anthropology, the block: Notion of Person in Africa, America and India.
