    Raquel Gallego Calderón holds a Ph.D. in Government and an M.Sc. in Public Administration and Public Policy from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). She is also M.Phil. in Political Science and Bachelor (Licenciatura) in Political Science and Sociology by the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). She is Full Professor of Political Science and Public Administration at the Department of Political Science and Public Law and Senior Researcher at the Institute of Government and Public Policies (IGOP) at UAB. She was Director of IGOP (2016-19) and Coordinador of the Master in Public Management (2001-2016, 2020-2023), which is jointly organised by UAB, Universitat de Barcelona, and Universitat Pompeu Fabra. She has published books, edited volumes, book chapters, and articles in journals such as: European Societies, Social Indicators Research, International Public Management Journal, Governance, Public Administration –An International Quarterly, Public Administration Review, and Public Policy and Administration. Her research interests are: public policy analysis, public administration and management, public sector reform, state decentralisation, multilevel government, Welfare State and social policies (health, education, social services, housing), and social innovation.

    Raquel Gallego-Calderón holds a Ph.D. in Government and a Master (M.Sc.) in Public Administration and Public Policy (with Distinction) by the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). She also holds a Master in Political Science and a B.Sc. Degree in Political Science and Sociology (with Distinction and Top of the Cohort Prize) by the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). She pursued her postgraduate studies at LSE thanks to fellowships from the Spanish Ministry for Science and Technology, “la Caixa Foundation”, and the Catalan Government (Anglo-Catalan Society’s “Batista i Roca Fellowship”). She was distinguished with a “Ramón y Cajal Fellowship” for Senior Researchers from the Spanish Government (2002) and was awarded the Accreditation of Advanced Research (Full Professor) by the Agency for the Quality of the Catalan University System (AQU) in 2010.
    She currently is Full Professor of Political Science and Public Administration at UAB, Senior Researcher at the Institute of Government and Public Policies (IGOP) at UAB, and Academic Coordinator of the Master’s in Public Management (UAB, Universitat de Barcelona and Universitat Pompeu Fabra). She has also been Director of IGOP and Principal Investigator of IGOP’s Research Group on Analysis Management and Evaluation of Public Policies (AGAPP). She has participated as an evaluator/expert in research calls from the Spanish National Agency of Evaluation, the Catalan Agency for Management of University and Research Grants (AGAUR), the Agency for the Quality of the Catalan University System (AQU), and the Advisory Committee of the Catalan Institute of Public Policy Evaluation (Ivàlua). She has been reviewer of numerous academic journals as well as member of editorial boards, such as those of Governance, International Public Management Journal, Public Policy and Administration, Journal of Public Policy, Colección Estudios Políticos (Centre for Political and Constitutional Studies of the Spanish Government), and FOESSA Foundation. She has also worked as a freelance international consultant for the Inter-American Development Bank on public administration reform and state reform in Latin America.
    Her Ph.D. thesis “New Public Management Reforms in the Catalan Public Health Sector, 1985-1995: Institutional Choices, Transactions Costs and Policy Change” (1998) was the base for the three main lines of research she has worked on: public policy analysis, public administration and management reform, and Welfare State and social policies (health, education, social services, and housing). These lines have been developed through the direction or participation in 17 competitive research projects both from the European Commission and the Spanish government, and 18 applied contract-based research projects (8 of them on competitive calls) with local public and private institutions.
    She has disseminated her research through the publication of 9 books (most in the highest ranked Spanish publishers in SPI, and one of them being acknowledged with the 2003 Best Book Prize by the Spanish Political Science and Public Administration Association); 36 peer-reviewed articles (22 of which in JCR/SJR journals, 12 of which Q1); 58 book chapters (many of them by internationally prestigious publishers); and numerous other publications by public and private institutions. She has also participated regularly in congresses both at an international (PSA, ESA, APPAM, IPPA, IPSA, ECPR, ISA, EURAM, UACES, ECER, CLAD…) and Spanish level (AECPA, REPS, AES, FES…), with 70 contributions.
