Her major research motivation is to understand the metabolism of materials and energy in socioeconomic systems and the environmental impacts they generate throughout their life cycle. She is an expert in the field of circular economics and environmental tools such as ecodesign, material flow analysis, life cycle analysis and exergy analysis. These tools have been applied mainly to the study of metal metabolism and the analysis of electrical and electronic equipment.

En producció científica, té 35 articles en revistes indexades JCR d’un total de 39 articles científics, 41 articles i presentacions de conferències, 11 informes tècnics, 4 capítols de llibres, 3 programes registrats pel BOIP i una llista de 50 activitats docents i de difusió que inclouen entrevistes a radio, conferències amb estudiants de diversos nivells acadèmics (secundària, universitària) i tallers en fires.

La Dr Talens ha participat en 15 projectes finançats pels ministeris d’Espanya i la Comissió Europea – CE (4 d’ells com IP), inclosos 8 contractes com a experta externa de la CE per a l’avaluació de propostes de projectes en convocatòries H2020 i seguiment de projectes H2020 en curs (2017-2020). Actualment es IP d’un projecte EU ‘Green valorisation of CO2 and Nitrogen compounds for making FErTIlizers(CONFETI)’ i co-IP d’altres dos projectes: Bateries biodegradables i compostables per a l’agricultura de precisió i sistemes energètics descentralitzats (BIDEKO)’ i ‘Sustainable upgraded WWTP’s for resource recovery, water reuse and health surveillance in the mediterranean región (SPORE-MED)’. Des de 2017, ha aconseguit un finançament que supera l’1.5M d’euros, la major part en convocatòries competitives de projectes europeus.

Dr Talens Peiró is accredited by ANECA as a 'doctoral professor' (2013), with the I3 certification (I3/2020/436) from the Spanish Agency for Research, and in 2021, the research accreditation (7NPR7C3QP)' from the University Quality Agency of Catalonia.
Dr. Talens has held several teaching positions in several universities, having completed a total of 71 ECTS. His teaching experience has mostly been at the UAB, specifically in postgraduate courses. The supervised teaching (61%) that he has carried out in the Master's in Interdisciplinary Studies of Environmental, Economic and Social Sustainability stands out. Her experience as a teacher began during her PhD at the UAB where she taught problems in the subject of sustainable energy systems in the Joint European Masters Program in Environmental Studies (JEMES), and was also a teacher visiting at the Vrijeit Universiteit Brussels where he taught the subject Industry and Ecology for two academic years. She was later a visiting professor at the UPV where she taught the optional subject industrial ecology during an academic year. She resumed her teaching experience in 2017 when she joined the UAB as Beatriu de Pinós post-doctoral researcher. Since 2018 she has been a professor of Industrial Ecology in the interdisciplinary concepts module of the Master in Interdisciplinary Studies of Environmental, Economic and Social Sustainability at ICTA-UAB. From 2021, he also teaches in the Department of Chemical, Biological and Environmental Engineering (DEQBA) in the Food Science and Technology degree and in the Chemical Engineering degree.
At the UAB, he is a member of the evaluation committees for final master's theses. He has a notable participation in doctoral monitoring committees, and more relevantly as a member of the Academic Committee of the Doctoral Program in Environmental Sciences and Technology of the UAB (mention of excellence by the Ministry of Education for the RD 1393/2007) from 2019.
