Research interests
Lara Maestripieri holds a Ph.D. in Sociology and Social Research, granted by the University of Trento, Italy (2011). From May 2022, she serves as distinguished researcher “Ramon y Cajal” in the Department of Political Science at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. She is also a member of the Research group I-GOP Grup d'Estudis en Innovació, Governança i Polítiques Públiques, 2021 (SGR 01011 Q0818002H). She is also the IGOP member of the academic commission of the PhD program in Political Science, Public Policies and International Relations (PPIR). She is the current Secretary/Treasurer of ISA RC52 “Sociology of Professional Groups”. She is accredited Associate Professor in Sociology of Economic Processes, Work, Environment and Territory (14/D1) by the Italian Ministry of Education, Research and University, Maître de conférences in Sociology and Demography (CNU 19) by the French Conseil National des Universites, and obtained the Research Accreditation by the Catalan Agency of Evaluation (AQU) in 2022.
Her PhD dissertation focused on professionalism in management consultancy (2007-2011), with 11 publications derived from the doctoral thesis (including a Q1 article and a book). After the PhD, her professional career has developed mostly in the direction of the analysis of social change in post-industrial societies, with a specific focus on social vulnerability and social policies. From 2011 to 2014 she was employed as postdoc fellow in Economic Sociology within the EU funded project FLOWS at the Politecnico of Milano. In 2015/2016, she was employed as postdoc fellow in political economy within the EU funded project CrESSI at the Department of Social and Political Sciences of University of Pavia. From 2017 to 2019, she has been a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellow at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, studying gender and social vulnerability in an intersectional perspective under the project VINE (G.A. No 747433). This project aimed to study how and in what ways individual social vulnerability combine to determine economic insecurity, experienced at household level. From 2019 to 2022, she was Senior Lecturer in Economic Sociology at the Department of Architecture and Urban Studies of the Politecnico di Milano. In this position, she mostly focused on the study of social innovation in the domain of childcare, which was also prosecuted in her recent visiting stay at the University of Lille (January 2022-April 2022), where she received a grant as “Conférencière Invitée”.
Currently, Lara Maestripieri is supervising the thesis of Matilde Cittadini, entitled Minimum income schemes and intersectionality: the cases of two Mediterranean welfare states” and enrolled at the first year in the PPIR at the UAB. Lara Maestripieri supervised 10 Master Thesis in Spain (average mark 8,1) and 2 Master Thesis in Italy (average mark 110/110). She also supervised the PhD Candidate Willjan Hendrikx, during his visiting stay at the IGOP in 2017. Mireia Bolibar has supervised 5 Master Thesis, one of which won the award as the Best Junior Paper of the V Encuentro del Comité de Sociología del Trabajo (2020).
During her research career, she demonstrated a strong commitment to internationalisation thanks to 5 participations in EU Funded Collaborative Projects (both in FP7 and Horizon 2020 programs), 6 experiences of visiting at International Centres, several collaborations with co-authors in different countries. She demonstrated her capacity of attracting funds in competitive calls by winning two of the most important and competitive grants, such as the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowship and the Ramon y Cajal Fellowship for Senior Researchers. She successfully disseminated her research activities by publishing 25 articles in JCR/SJR journal on professionalism, gender and social vulnerability, social investment and social innovation (of which 6 Q1 and 11 Q2), 1 book and 11 chapters in SPI books, and by co-editing 10 special issues in peer-reviewed journal. Currently (January 2023), she has been cited 475 times, with H-index of 11.
