Personal profile

Research interests

My research (since 1983) is on aerobiology: study of the diversity, levels and dynamics of pollen and fungal spores in the air as well as of their allergens; the relationship with vegetation, meteorology, climate and atmospheric transport; and the application to the study of the climate change and to the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of the allergies. As a result of this research, I have organized and I am the coordinator of the “Laboratori d’Anàlisis Palinològiques”, included in the Services offered by the UAB  (https://sct.uab.cat/lap/), and I have organized and I coordinate the “Xarxa Aerobiològica de Catalunya, XAC” and the “Punt d’Informació Aerobiològica, PIA”, a global project developed as a service to the medical community (allergologists, pneumologists and in general) and to the public in general informing about our aerobiological results that is accessible in open at https://aerobiologia.cat. The database associated to this service contains data since 1983 using non standardized monitoring methodologies and, since 1994, data from daily pollen and spore concentrations from (at present) 9 sites in Catalonia and 2 sites in Tenerife (Canary Islands) following the standardized international methodologies.

In the recent years research on melissopalynology and on the study of airborne microarthropods has been incorporated to my research interests.

Educational management

I am professor of Botany since October 1982, with undergraduate theoretical and practical teaching to students of Biology, Environmental Biology and Environmental Sciences on general botany, vegetation and palynology and teaching to master students in palynology, aerobiology and its applications in Allergology, one health and the study of the environment and climate change.

I was Coordinator of the UAB Environmental Sciences degree from September 2005 to September 2008 and elected member of the UAB Academic Affairs Committee from December 2006 to September 2009.
