Jordi Roquer González (Barcelona, February 23, 1974) holds a PhD in Art History and Musicology from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). He is a professor in the Department of Musicology at this university and a collaborator in the Audiovisual Media Degree at the TecnoCampus in Mataró (Pompeu Fabra University, Barcelona).
He is a member of the MUSC-SSIT Research Group, linked both to the UAB and the TecnoCampus, a group from which he aims to contribute synergies between the fields of musicology and audiovisuals. He is also the director of the Journal of Sound, Silence, Image and Technology (JoSSIT - UPF). His area of study moves between two major poles: ethnomusicology and musical technology, areas from which he has been interested in issues such as the study of sound discourses of popular music, technologically mediated musical reception, or socio-technological behaviors towards music in contemporary societies. He has published around twenty works on these topics, including articles in academic journals and book chapters. He has participated in around thirty conferences and seminars and has been a keynote speaker at around ten conferences and seminars both nationally and internationally. He has also worked on various projects related to music and technology, especially in the field of sound heritage preservation, directing projects such as the digitization of sound supports for the Library Network of the Barcelona Provincial Council (2023), the National Library of Spain (2016), the Museum of Music of Barcelona (2014), the Library of Catalonia (2012), or the Museum of the Mediterranean (2012).
As a musician, he has recorded around twenty albums, including productions of popular music, music for theater, and music for cinema. He has performed concerts and tours nationally and internationally, activities that he has always sought to link in various ways to his teaching and research work in the academic field.
