I started specializing in topics related to the history of agriculture and agrarian and popular associations. From these, I wrote my doctoral thesis on republican rural unionism in Catalonia during the twenties of the twentieth century, which I published in 2000 under the title “La Unió de Rabassaires”. I got to publish seven books, apart from numerous articles and book chapters, on these topics.

Starting in 2008, I began to focus on matters related to the history of the movements that have promoted territorial harmony among the different Hispanic peoples, such as federalism, Iberianism, Hispano-Americanism, Europeanism, and cosmopolitanism. Undoubtedly, all these movements influenced the doctrines or political currents that were most characterized by trying to seek solutions of harmony to the territorial or national conflict in Spain. With this, I tried to fill an important historiographic void - and in Catalonia more than anywhere else - while at the same time helping to enrich the discipline of political and social history in Spain. I have therefore tried to vindicate political and intellectual sectors with very little attention historiographically and I have worked on them fundamentally from biographical studies. Based on these works, I have tried to value intellectuals and / or politicians who have defended territorial “concord”, especially from Catalonia, based on the leadership of certain political and cultural movements. I am referring, for example, to studies on Salvador Sanpere Miquel (1840-1915) (2020), Jaume Carner (1867-1934) (2019), Luis de Zulueta (1878-1964) (2010, 2011 and 2012), Lluís Companys (1882-1940) (2016), Marcelino Domingo (1884-1939) (2016) or Joan Lluhí Vallescà (1897-1944) (2016). I am currently working on the pedagogue and philosopher Joaquim Xirau (1895-1946) and the archaeologist and rector of the University of Barcelona between 1933 and 1939, Pere Bosch-Gimpera (1891-1974). All of them made an effort to find possible ways of political solution to the inevitable clash derived from the existence of two different nationalization processes (Spanish and Catalan) in the same territory, in this case the Catalan one. All of them ultimately collaborated in offering the most efficient type of political and territorial agreement that was favorable in all senses and for both parties.

With these studies I have therefore tried to correct some of the most accepted interpretations of the history of Catalonia that I consider to be at least biased. For example, the general disruptive character (culturally and politically) of Catalanism throughout its history. The aforementioned studies aim to show the strength of Catalan sectors that tried to offer "integrative" solutions to historical situations of territorial or "national" conflict and that in most contexts were imposed on disruptive solutions.

Finally, and also with an innovative purpose, I try to make my studies open to interdisciplinarity. An example of this could be, once again, the biographical studies to which I have referred (as well as many others that I do not mention). These works have forced me to approach and integrate highly varied disciplinary fields depending on the professional and public domains of the characters and their environment (education, art, literature, philosophy ... apart, of course, from politics and unionism).
