My knowledge areas are radiobiology, radioprotection, cytogenetics, human genetics, and cancer genetics. My studies on the effects of exposure to ionizing radiation on humans began 25 years ago. Initially at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, then I did a post-doctoral stage in the former GSF-Forschungszentrum für Umwelt und Gesunheit GmbH (Germany). Later I had several positions as a university professor at UAB, where I am currently permanent professor. In leave of absence and during the years 2011-2013 I was head of the laboratory of biological dosimetry at the IRSN (France). During my career I have participated in studies of occupational exposure to low doses, the adaptive response, effects of radiation of different quality, the relative involvement in radiation-induced chromosome aberrations, radioprotectors, studies on the relative biological effectiveness rays low energy X and the response of BRCA1 mutation carriers. More recently, I have been focused in improving the response of biological dosimetry in case of mass casualties, or in cases of exposures to high doses. I have participated in an international group for ISO standardization of various methods used in biological dosimetry, and I am involved in several biological dosimetry laboratory networks. Since 2007, the IAEA regularly asks me to participate as an expert in biological dosimetry. Until today I have published 91 articles in indexed journals (SCI), have directed eight doctoral theses, and I have participated in 15 competitive projects (three of Europe) and I have been principal investigator on four of them. I have been on the scientific advisory board of several congress and I member of the Editorial board of Radioprotection journal (France). I have reviewed several manuscripts for international journals as well as projects at national and International level.
