Javier Rodrigo is Full Professor in History. Former ICREA-Acadèmia Reseach Fellow and Associate Professor at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Spain. PhD (2004) in History from the European University Institute and postdoctoral researcher (London School of Economics, UNED), he has been “Juan de la Cierva” Researcher at the University of Zaragoza and “Ramón y Cajal” Research Fellow.

His scientific career is characterized by innovation, team building, and internationalization. Author of 11 books and editor of 10 books, Rodrigo has coordinated 2 European Projects: SO-CLOSE, Enhancing Social Cohesion through Sharing the Cultural Heritage of Forced Migrations, a funded Project by the European Commission's Horizon2020 Programme, on refugees, forced displacements and cultural heritage (+3 million euro funded), and the European Commission’s CERV project WIRE (Women in Resistance. Reshaping the narratives on Female Antitotalitarian Resistance in Europe) (341.300 euros funded). Starting in 2022, Rodrigo coordinates the Generalitat de Catalunya’s Research Group GRECS (Grup de Recerca en Guerra, Radicalisme Polític I Conflicte Social) and the Research Network VOICES, Violencia, Identidad y Conflicto en la España del Siglo XX. He has coordinated the project POS-C-WARS, on the history of civil post-war periods in Europe. Since 2024 he also coordinates PERPETRATE, on the history of mass violence perpetration in Spain.

Since 2012, he has published papers in WOS-JCR Journals: 3 papers Q1, 1 review Q1, 3 papers Q2, 3 papers Q3, 1 paper Q4. Rodrigo has supervised 4 finished PhDs and is currently supervising 5 doctoral projects. He has supervised more than 20 MA Thesis. He has participated in more than 100 national and international seminars and conferences.

He is considered one of the most prominent historians in Europe on the Spanish Civil War and Postwar, collective violence, fascism, and civil wars.
