Research interests

Tenure lecturer (2010) at Faculty of Political Sciences and Sociology, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). Background studies on Law (UB), Sociology (UAB) and Computer Engineering (UNED). PhD. in Political Sciences and Sociology from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) and a Master’s Degree in Sociology of Consumption from Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM). Involved in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate level courses in Methodology for the Social Sciences, Sociology of Consumption, Applied Statistics for Marketing Analysis, and Agent-based modeling and simulation at both the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), the Universitat de Barcelona (UB) and Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF). Research in sociology of consumption, social indicators regarding women in contemporary society, and the analysis of school-to-work transitions. Currently, mainly working in the domain of computational sociology -an applied branch of AI that merges social science and computer simulation techniques to model and analise complex socio-policy issues and societal dynamics- at the SGR research team GSADI-UAB, and involved in several projects using agent-based simulation for the modelling (ABM) of social networks dynamics and evolution of social behavior. Has authored and co-authored over 30 contributions to international conferences, indexed international journals and book chapters and compilations on agent-based social modeling since 2009, and was founder and Executive Director of the “LSDS Laboratory for Socio-Historical Dynamics Simulation” at UAB. Since 1995 experience participating in European and national research competitive projects, with interdisciplinary teams from the domain of Computer Engeenering and Computer Sciences (GRASIA-UCM, INSISOC-UVA, IIIA-CSIC). Since 2012, has disseminated and transfered best practices and knowledge on the application of AI tools and ABM through personalized training and the provision of workshops and seminars at national and international events. Has participated and organized national and international conferences in the field of Social Simulation and analysis through Virtual Societies using ABM modeling, being editor/compilator of various publications derived from such scientific meetings. Has directed 5 PhD. dissertations (plus 2 currently ongoing) of which 4 directly incorporate applications of computational sociology and multi-agent simulation into social issues:
