Research interests

Esther Udina is Full professor at the Physiology Unit of Medical School, at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, where she combines teaching activities at the grades of Medicine and Physiotherapy and the Master of Neurosciences with basic research in the group of Neuroplasticity and Regeneration. Her current interests are focused on strategies to improve functional recovery after neural injuries in animal models. She has used activity dependent therapies to modulate the plastic changes that occur in the spinal cord after neural injuries, that can interfere with functional outcomes. She is currently investigating the regenerative capability and the genetic program activated by different subtypes of peripheral neurons after axotomy, with the aim to design strategies to promote specific regeneration, one of the main factors limiting functional recovery after peripheral nerve injuries. She has published more than 65 peer-reviewed papers, has an H-index of 38, has been cited more than 3500 times, has directed or co-directed 11 PhD thesis and has been IP of 5 national research projects and collaborator of several European ones.
