Personal profile
Research interests
I am an ICREA Research Professor at ICTA-UAB. I am a political ecologist building knowledge on the environmental and wellbeing outcomes of climate change and biodiversity conservation policies and producing scientific findings that inform global policies for sustainable land use.
Most of my research focuses on studying how specific biodiversity conservation approaches, namely payments for ecosystem services, biodiversity offsetting and protected areas, affect local populations in the global South, particularly their social organization and livelihoods.
I have also examined how sustainable land-use management approaches aid or hinder rural peoples’ ability to cope with and adapt to global change, and investigated which academic and social patterns underlie the construction of scientific evidence. These patterns have implications on the type of knowledge produced, the sustainability solutions advocated, and for the governance of scientific production.
