    Personal profile

    Research interests

    Full Professor of Financial Economics and Accounting at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Member of the Editorial Board of international and national academic journals (Journal of Productivity Analysis, Spanish Journal of Finance and Accounting, Revista Catalana de Contabilidad y Dirección, OIKOS and European Accounting and Management Journal -where I am Editor-in-Chief). I also have a regular participation in scientific committees of national and international conferences.

     

    My research interests, are the efficiency analysis of organisations and firms’ financial analysis. In the efficiency analysis field, my research is oriented towards the design of models to assess the efficiency of organisations, both public and private, and to design programs to improve their performance. In the financial analysis, my research is oriented towards the comparative benchmark of performance and risk of the European firms in the framework of global competition.

     

    I develop my main teaching activity in the Department of Business at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. I participate regularly in postgraduate programs at various Spanish and foreign universities. I have published 123 articles in national and international academic journals. I have published a total of 21 contributions in books or book chapters and I have supervised 24 doctoral theses.

     

    I have participated in a total of 26 research projects with external funding, national and international  (among them, one European project), appearing as a responsible researcher in 20 of them. Of the previous projects, 16 are competitive and 10 are non-competitive.

     

    I have been active in assuming leadership activities for the management of the Department of Business as well as of the School of Economics and Business at UAB. Among other activities, I have been coordinator of the iDEM Doctoral Program (from 2013 to 2015), Head of the department (from 2000 to 2004) and Dean of the School of Economics and Business (from 2015 to 2018). I also have been member of other academic and research commissions at UAB and other institutions.

    From the methodological perspective, I have stable relationships with several research centers (as, for instance, Frisch Center in Oslo) as well as other research units in Spain and other international universities (University of Leicester, Université Catholique de Lille, Instituut voor Publieke Sector Efficiëntie Studies from Delft University, Universidad de Granada,  Universitat Jaume I de Castellón) to organize seminars, tutorial sessions and workshops.

     

    Additional activities, oriented towards the dissemination of social and economic impacts of my research is the existing agreement to explain the results in important bodies of the Catalan public and private sectors: Colegio de Economistas de Cataluña, Generalitat de Cataluña, Escuela de Administración Pública de Cataluña and Asociación Catalana de Contabilidad y Dirección, among others.
