Research interests
My major interest is to find epigenetic therapeutic targets to promote functional recovery after traumatic injuries of the nervous system. This interest has been generated after studying the pathophysiology of several diseases such as traumatic injuries of the nervous system, neurodegenerative diseases, and brain cancer. I am currently combining this knowledge to achieve therapeutic innovation.
I am combining the expertise on the epigenetic field, I obtained during my last postdoctoral stage in the Center for Therapeutic Innovation in Dr. Ayad laboratory (University of Miami, USA), with the expertise on the nervous system traumatic area, I obtained during my doctoral stage in Dr. Casas laboratory (UAB) and my first postdoctoral stage in Dr. Pearse laboratory (University of Miami, USA). In 2018, I have obtained Beatriz Galindo contract which is a senior research position in the Cell biology, Physiology and Immunology Department (UAB), and which has associated a tenure-track position as Full Professor. I have mentored 4 Master Thesis and I am currently mentoring 3 Ph.D. One of the Ph.Ds is being co-directed with Dr. Francesc Jimenez-Altayó within the epigenetics and brain stroke field. Since 2021, I am also a member of the Directive board of the Institute of Neurosciences of the UAB.
