Personal profile
Research interests
I am a vision scientist currently based in Barcelona. Most of my interests sit in the interface between visual perception and computer vision. They include low-level computational models of vision, visual psychophysics, artificial intelligence, neuro-visual ecology, natural images, avian and primate vision, colorimetry and camera calibration, indie rock music and movies, Sci-Fi, comics, electronic music, computer gaming, miniature building and outdoor activities among others.
Short Academic Bio
I was born in Argentina. In the last year of my degree in Physics at the Universidad Nacional de Tucuman I became interested in vision and visual perception. Following this new interest, I did an MSc. in the Dept. of Exp. Psychology of Bristol University (UK). In 1997 I went to work in the Dept. of Physiology in Cambridge University. In 1998 I returned to the Dept. of Exp. Psychology to work on my PhD (1998-2003). After my PhD I worked as a potdoc in the School of Biological Sciences. In 2006 I was awarded the "Juan de la Cierva" Fellowship by the Spanish Ministry of Science and moved to Barcelona, Spain to join the Computer Vision Centre of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. In 2007 I was awarded the "Ramon y Cajal" Fellowship. In 2012 I joined the Computer Sciences Department of the UAB as "Profesor Agregado" (Associate Professor).
I currently live near Barcelona with my wife Claudia and my son Patxi.
