Personal profile

Research interests

I am a professor in the Department of Nursing at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), where I have taught undergraduate, Postgraduate and Master's degrees since 2010, the year in which Nursing studies were incorporated into this university. Previously this year, and since 1989, I combined my main healthcare task at the Vall d'Hebron hospital with that of the teacher at the Vall d'Hebron University School. During this time, apart from clinical and teaching learning, I started in research through the training received and in a self-taught way. In 2001 I graduated in Social and Cultural Anthropology (UAB), which allowed me to have access to doctoral studies that with nursing training was not possible then. Later, with the adaptation of the degrees to the European Higher Education Area, I was able to get a doctorate in the nursing field at the University of Barcelona defending my thesis entitled: Nursing professional identity: construction and development in students during their university training.

My current teaching activity is basically focused on the Nursing degree, where I am responsible for different subjects and tutor of End-of-Degree Projects (TFG). I also collaborate in different postgraduate and master's degrees either as a teacher or as director of Final Master's Projects (TFM). An example of them are the Master of Surgical Nursing at the UAB, Master of Intensive Care Neonatal and Pediatric Nurses at the UAB and Interuniversity Master of Research and Innovation in Nursing Care. On the other hand, I am coordinator of the 4th year of the Nursing Degree and since 2005 I also direct the Master and Postgraduate in Surgical Nursing at the same university.

Regarding my research activity, I have a research section recognized by the AQU (2020). Currently and since 2020 I am a member of the GREMSAS Multidisciplinary Research Group in Health and Society and I am part of the 2017 SGR 00917. Previously, I belonged to the AFIN research group (2014 to 2020), an interdisciplinary and interuniversity group of basic and applied research in social sciences, human rights and health recognized in 2017 by the AGAUR (Agency for the Management of University and Research Grants) as a Consolidated Research Group (2017SGR1791). As a member of the group, I have collaborated in the RecerCaixa funded project (2015) entitled: Male caregivers: Challenges and Opportunities to Reduce gender inequalities and face new care needs. I have also belonged to the Ibero-American Network for Research in Nursing Education (RIIEE) since 2013 and I collaborate in the research project Development of reflective and critical thinking in nursing students: Ibero-American situation. On the other hand, I have also participated in the project financed by the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness entitled Disciplinary knowledge, pedagogical knowledge and learning situated in higher education (2016-2019) and currently also in the Qualitative Evaluation of the Young Sex website, funded by the Official College of Nurses and Nurses of Barcelona (2018-2021).

Among the other ongoing projects to be highlighted, in this case not funded but linked to assistance and in collaboration with it, are: 1) vaccination coverage for pregnant women and attitudes towards influenza and whooping cough in pregnant women and women. midwives, in collaboration with the ASSIR (sexual and reproductive health care units) of primary care, 2) the Apprenticeship and Service (ApS) in the End-of-Degree Projects of the Nursing degree of the UAB that we carry out with an agreement with the Vall d'Hebron hospital, and 3) the research on family presence during pediatric invasive procedures, also in collaboration with this hospital. I would like to highlight the commitment that has always been made to strengthen the bond between professionals at the university and those in attendance and, therefore, between both institutions.
Among my latest publications indexed in the JCR are those entitled Understanding factors that influence the decision to be vaccinated against influenza and pertussis in pregnancy: A qualitative study (2021), Emotion management and Stereotypes about emotions among male nurses: a qualitative study (2021) , The Bachelor's thesis in nursing: Characteristics and students 'approach and satisfaction (2021), Psychological Distress and Somatization in Immigrants in Primary Health Care Practices (2020), Male nurses' views of gender in the nurse-family relationship in Pediatric care (2019), Confusión about professional Autonomy among Final-Year Nursing Students in Spain (2019), Contradictory views of nursing care among students at the end of their nursing education (2.017) and Theory and practice in the construction of professional identity in nursing students : a qualitative study (2015).
