General quality indicators of scientific research

1.National Research Recognitions

2 Research Periods of Research Quality (6 years/period). The latest research period was granted in 2019.

2. Dissemination of research: 33 research papers (8 of them in JCR journals) and more than 20 contributions to seminars and congresses, mainly international (NARST Conference (National Association of Research in Science Education), ESERA Conference (European Science Education Research Association), Congreso Internacional sobre Investigación en Didáctica de las Ciencias (Revista Enseñanza de las Ciencias) and Encuentros sobre Didáctica de las Ciencias.

I authored or co-authored 7 books chapter, and I participated in 4 books regarding teaching skills in higher education (gender, competences, CLIC, …).

3. Summary of research lines: Through my scientific career, I have developed 2 connected research lines: Language and Scientific Practices and Science Education and big ideas of Biology.

Regarding the first one, I was invited to join LIEC Research Group in 2002 when I was a Secondary School Science Teacher. My interests were focused on the relation between language and science learning, specially related with the development of science models. As a group, our first research topic regarding CT was related with critical press reading, and this interest develop to epistemic cognition, focus on critical apt performance and how it is influenced by values, emotions, identities, etc. My PhD dissertation was related to attitudes to science and to identify which factors influenced the decision to enroll to a scientific degree.

As I biologist, I’ve been always interest in how biological knowledge is organized, using the systemic approach, and how it could be developed, from children’ previous knowledge until biological one’s. Specifically, I am focused on how biological knowledge is developed in Secondary School.
