    Dr. Álvaro Fernández-Llamazares is an ethnobiologist with an established research trajectory on the study of Indigenous Peoples and their contributions to biodiversity conservation. He worked as a researcher at the University of Helsinki, Finland, for seven years (2016-2022) and is currently a Ramón y Cajal research fellow at the Department of Animal Biology, Plant Biology and Ecology (BABVE) and the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology ( ICTA-UAB).

    He has published more than 90 scientific articles, and has more than 30 months of field-based ethnographic experience among Indigenous Peoples and local communities in countries such as Bolivia, Kenya and Madagascar. The significance of his work has been recognized with important awards such as Olli's Prize from the University of Helsinki (2014), the Research Prize in Environmental Sciences from the College of Environmental Scientists of Catalonia (2016), or the Extraordinary PhD Award from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (2019). He is currently leading a Starting Grant from the European Research Council (1.5M€) on the loss of traditional ecological knowledge in the Bolivian Amazon.
